International Barefoot Run in Dublin May 6th 1pm

Wow, what a run we have planned. I was out for a run round the 5km circuit last night and finished each of the 2 laps with the thought… that was a fantastic run.Barefoot Running

Starting at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre (formally Grand Canal Theatre) among the giant red poles in the rejuvenated Grand Canal Dock area, we head off to the banks of the Liffey. Running up the south side bank of Dublin’s Liffey looking across at the Leaning Coke can of Dublin (Convention centre) and the Dublin docklands area and IFSC. Sections of the Quay up to O’Connell Bridge still have the old tram lines and are surrounded by cobbles adding to the experience. At O’Connell Bridge we turn down Westmorland Street towards Trinity College. Passing the front door of Ireland’s oldest University we continue up to the statue of Molley Malone. Leaving the Tart with the Cart we head onto Grafton Street and make our way up Dublins premier shopping street. Once the most expensive shopping street in the world, we will make our way through buskers, shoppers, tourists and the occasional wino offering a high five.

Stephen’s Green is the first park we visit on the run going over the bridge and around the central flower area. If the 6th May is a sunny day we can expect to turn heads as Dubliners enjoy a day in the park. Leaving the Green we head down Merrion Row onto Upper Merrion Street to our second park, Merrion Square. Out of the park and down Upper Mount Street to the canal. Choice of route heading north up the side of the canal, either on the lower slightly rough path by the water’s edge or on the smother footpath up at roadside. At the end of the canal we head down the cobble street of Grand Canal Quay before emerging back into the Grand Canal Dock

This 5km circuit through Dublin covers some fantastic sights and through diverse areas of the capital and over a variety of different surfaces. I am looking forward to getting a chance to run this circuit with a group of fellow barefoot fans. Let’s hope the 6th May provides us with some fantastic weather.

See you soon

Owen
